Safety first

In order to get riding with your dog, you need to ensure that both you and your best pal are comfortable with the whole setup. You need to be comfortable riding solo on your bike and you should take time to make your dog feel at ease to the side of your bike. It’s a good idea to begin walking your bike slowly forward to see how your dog behaves. Once you both are ready for a ride, it’s important that you have all the correct equipment such as a helmet, lead and any reflective clothing that may be necessary. For the first few rides, it’s a good idea to keep the rides short and simple in areas that you know, avoiding major junctions and traffic-filled roads as possible. As well as this, it is incredibly important to stay alert when riding for any potential distractions to your canine friend.

Take care

Make sure that you take regular water breaks so that your dog stays cool and prevents overheating. Your speed should be taken into consideration, make sure that you monitor your dog and match your speed so that your dog can enjoy itself. Don’t forget to reward your dog with praise and treats when they have been doing a great job as your cycling partner! You know your dog better than anyone else, keep an eye out for any signs that he/she is struggling.

Explore!

Most of all this should be a great bonding experience for you and your best (non-human) friend so have fun and explore some areas that you and your dog may not have experienced before. We hope you and your dog can make an unbeatable cycling duo.

(P.s Remember your poo bags!)
