UK Ebike
Subsidies
Looking for more information about the current subsidies available in the UK for ebikes? You're in the right place.
Thinking of investing in an electric bike, but doing some due diligence around available ebike subsidies first? We’ve got you covered. We’ve saved you the research time and collated an up to date list of available schemes, grants and subsidies in the UK to make purchasing an ebike even easier.
Help to purchase an ebike
If you’re interested in buying an ebike outright, the options below might help to manage the cost.
Cycle to work schemes
Whilst electric bikes have never been excluded from cycle to work schemes, it was tricky to get your hands on a higher quality model in the early days. The reason for this is a historic threshold on purchases under the scheme - £1000. Fortunately in 2019 the UK government removed this threshold completely, opening up the possibility for people to get their hands on a higher spec ebike.
Ebike loan (Scotland only)
If you’re a Scotland resident, you’re eligible to take advantage of their ebike loan. The loan gives you:
Up to 2 new ebikes (with a max value of £3,000 each)
Up to 2 used ebikes (with a max value of £2,000 each)
A new family ecargo bike (with a max value of £6000)
A used family ecargo bike (with a max value of £4000)
Find out more about the loan on the Energy Savings Trust website.
As well as the above, many retailers also offer finance options such as Klarna to help you spread the cost of a new electric bike.
Help to try out an ebike
Not sure whether an ebike is for you yet? There are a few ways that you can get your hands on one to try before you buy!
Making cycling E-asier
Cycling UK’s loan scheme, Making Cycling E-asier, offers one month loans of ebikes to residents in:
Leicester & Burton on Trent
Sheffield
Manchester
Luton & Dunstable
E-Move Scheme
The E-Move scheme is similar to the Making Cycling E-asier scheme in the sense that it allows people to borrow an ebike for up to four weeks. This scheme is currently available in Wales in the following places (and their surrounding areas):
Aberystwyth
Rhyl
Barry
Swansea
Newtown
The scheme is open to both individuals and businesses and has seen a lot of success since first rolling out in 2021.
Any schemes mentioned above are valid as of the date noted at the top of this post. We’ll continue to keep this up to date to help you get access to the best support possible when buying or trying an ebike.
